Was Ford's Pardon of Nixon a healing act?

Now all the commentators, historians and pundits are assuming it is a fact that Gerald Ford's Full Pardon of Richard Nixon was a heroic act that helped the nation heal from "our long national nightmare." I believe that this idea is perfectly, exactly wrong!

Pardoning Nixon gave the country a deep malaise that it did not recover from for another 10 years. Pardoning Nixon re-affirmed the cynic's take that powerful people are above the law. Pardoning Nixon went solidly against the cherished American ideal that we are a country of laws and not kings. Pardoning Nixon did not allow the nation to heal but rather it only made politicians feel safer at the expense of the ordinary citizen's sense of justice and fairness for all. Pardoning Nixon possibly could have been one of the dirtiest back room deals in history.

Conformist historians like Michael Beschloss babble on TV and stick to the party line that says Nixon's pardon was a great and noble act and that it should be remembered as a courageous act that saved America from great harm! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE HOW HISTORY CAN BE TWISTED TO SAY THE EXACT OPPOSTIE OF WHAT THE TRUTH IS: Ford's pardon of Nixon tore the country apart and caused great wounds to fester permanently in the American People's psyche.
